As part of the Off the Shelf Festival Signposts are organising the following events:
Poems for Peace: Writing Workshop with River Wolton
Saturday 11th October 2.15 – 4.30pm
The Quaker meeting House, 10 St James St., Sheffield S1.
Tickets £6/£4 (Cons)
This workshop will explore a variety of ways of writing poems for peace. Participants may read their work if they wish at the CND Reading on October 28. River Wolton is an experienced workshop leader, the Derbyshire Poet Laureate and winner of the Red Pepper Poetry competition.
Celebrating King Cabbage: Writing Workshop with Matt Black
Sunday 12th October 1.00 – 3.00 pm
LEAF, Community Allotments Project, Herries Rd., Sheffield, S5.
Tickets £6/£4 (cons)
A workshop to enjoy in the open air. Here is your chance to write poems exploring and celebrating allotment life, cabbages, carrots, rhubarb, dibbers and those who potter in greenhouses. Participants can read at the allotment poetry reading (see below) if they wish to.
Poems from the Potting Shed: Open Mic event with Matt Black
Sunday 12th October 3.30 – 5.00 pm

Enjoy poems read out in the fresh air of the allotments. Poems on all subjects welcome but most especially allotment/vegetable related. Bring your verses on vegetables and your sonnets on swedes!
Life 2.0: Writing and New Technology - A Poetry and Sound Performance
Friday 17th October 6.00 pm
Access Space, Unit 1, 3-7 Sidney St., Sheffield, S1.
Admission free. No need to book
In the UK’s longest running Open Source Media Lab, this performance explores writing and new technology. Following pieces at The Cathedral and Winter Garden, Robin Vaughan-Williams has worked with local writers and performers to produce a collaborative performance.
Young Voices: Open Mic event
Wednesday 22nd October 7.45pm
The Showroom, Paternoster Row, Sheffield, S1.
Admission Free. For 13 years and over.
Young writers (aged 13-18 years) and some not so young writers take to the stage. The event also includes prize giving and readings from the Write Away Competition for Young Writers. Plus mystery guest and an Open Mic - just turn up and have a go.
Poems for Peace: CND Book Launch and Open Mic with River Wolton

This year CND have run a Poems for Peace competition and the resulting anthology is launched tonight. Come, listen and possibly read a poem of your own in the open mic spot. The Derbyshire Poet Laureate River Wolton will host and read.
Poetry Workshop with Daljit Nagra
Saturday 25th October 2.00 pm – 4.00 pm

Daljit will focus on identity and how we write about ourselves directly or in disguise. Some contemporary poets will be explored as part of the discussion. An opportunity to work with one of the brightest new stars on the poetry scene. Daljit Nagra won the Forward Prize for his poem, ‘Look We Have Coming To Dover!’, which comes from his acclaimed debut collection of the same name.
